Dr. Carlton Abner, DNP, brings over two decades of healthcare and leadership expertise to his role as the Associate Provost of Campus Health and Wellness at Kansas City University. With a focus on enhancing the culture of health and wellness at KCU, Dr. Abner is spearheading comprehensive strategies spanning emotional, mental, physical, financial, spiritual, and social well-being.
Formerly the Dean and lead faculty for the Veterans Affairs Innovative Technology Advancement Lab at Cerner in Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Abner has extensive experience in healthcare innovation. Additionally, as a Lieutenant Colonel and Chief Nursing Executive in the Kansas Air National Guard, he has led healthcare teams in various global settings, showcasing his proficiency in program management and leadership.
Dr. Abner holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from San Francisco University, a Master of Health Administration from Trident University International, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Missouri. His dedication to fostering a culture of wellness goes beyond mere activities; he aims to instill a philosophy of wellness and address underlying barriers to personal well-being, fostering lasting change within the community.
